E-drug: RFI animal parts
---------------------------------------------
Dear e-druggers
I wonder if you can help. I have exhausted all the references I can
find without success.
One of my jobs is working with Radio Australia SE Asia presenters in
the preparation and presentation of health topics in their own
languages. We have covered the usual things - malaria, diarrhoea,
dengue, TB, rational use of drugs, safe injections, HIV, smoking
etc. etc
The presenters are very keen to look at traditional medicines and in
particular and separately to look at the use of animal parts so
people can be discouraged from using them.
I am having great difficulty in getting any information about the
active constituents of anything except bear's bile which contains
ursodeoxycholic acid.
We are keen to know therapeutic constituents (if any) in eg tiger
penis, tiger bone, rhino horn, etc in order to approach the subject
better. Is tiger bone any different from any other bone? Is rhino
horn any different from toenails?
Best wishes and thanks for all your ongoing support.
