----------
Note: The Global Fund has its second Board meeting in New York
City, from today (Monday 22 April) until 24 April.

Media are invited to join this issue-framing call TODAY at 12 noon,
where the conflicts and unresolved disputes at play at the Global
Fund will be discussed.

The call's participants include the activists, health advocates, and
developing country AIDS experts who have been lobbying the Fund
on HIV treatment access since its inception. I hope you can join us.

MEDIA ADVISORY - Press Teleconference

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria: Access to
Medicines and The First Grant Announcements

WHEN: Monday, April 22, 12-1 pm EST
HOW: Within the US: (800) 210-5592, Outside:
+1-952-556-2811 ask for Doctors Without Borders call
RSVP: (Not necessary, but appreciated): Kris Torgeson,
212-655-3764 WHO:

ISSUES TO BE DISCUSSED:

--The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria Board of Directors
meeting will take place in New York City, April 22-24: what will be
announced? How did the application process take place?

--What must happen to ensure that the Fund fulfills its promise to
provide access to treatment to the millions dying of AIDS, TB, and
malaria? The Fund is tremendously short on money, and many
Board members have spoken explicitly *against* the value of HIV
treatment in developing countries.

--Will the Global Fund grants explicitly prioritize treatment, not only
prevention and care programs, and encourage the procurement of
the most affordable and effective drugs for HIV/AIDS, TB, and
Malaria?

--Will the Doha Declaration on TRIPS and public health be upheld
and endorsed in the funding process, or will only name-brand, more
expensive medicines be procured, as per the wishes of Big Pharma?
