E-drug: Formulary requests
---------------------------------------------
[It would be hard to find an e-drugger more isolated than Melanaite.
Her questions illustrate the practical issues that confront a person
in her position. I hope we can help her. Responses can be sent to her
directly. BS]
To whomever it concerns
My name is Melenaite Mahe, I am the Principal Pharmacist for the
Tongan Ministry of Health. Recently the Ministry hosted a workshop on
a new essential drug list. Some interesting issues were raised. Can
anyone help me by answering the following or pointing me in the
direction of a website or an on-line journal article.
1) Paraldehyde: Is there an available protocol for use PR. How does
one administer this? Are glass syringes, etc required?
2) Needle-stick injuries and occupational exposure to viruses: Two
viruses were of concern, Hep B and HIV. Does WHO have a policy in
relation to this? What options are available? Also percutaneous
exposure?
3) Does either UNICEF or WHO or another agency have a policy in
relation to Hepatitis B and HIB vaccines. Are there any pricing
agreements?
4) Where might I find more information discussing both sides of the
Ritalin/Methylphenidate debate?
5) Blood glucose screening of diabetics to prevent secondary
complications may be cost effective. Is there research to show that
this is the case in a developing country. Are any agencies advocating
to make glucose testing strips more affordable?
Can you include response to Melenaite Soakai Mahe <bonerk@kalianet.to>
Yours Sincerely
Melanite Mahe
Tonga
