E-drug: Banning metamisole in Moldova (9)
------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Natalia,

The following reference has some relevant information related to
metamisole:
Hargis JB, La Russa VF, Redmond J, Kessler SW, Wright DG.
Agranulocytosis associated with "Mexican aspirin" (dipyrone):
evidence for an autoimmune mechanism affecting multipotential
hematopoietic progenitors. Am J Hematol. 1989 Jul;31(3):213-5.

Dipyrone is reported to be the most common drug sold to Mexican
immigrants by illegal back room shops in California near the US.-
Mexican border. The drug was withdrawn from the U.S. market in
1977 but still in the Mexican market place. Perhaps someone in the
Mexican regulatory authorities is waiting for the Mexican adverse
drug reaction report data to exist and a satisfactory number of death
and harm accumulate then act to take the drug off the market.
