E-drug: Reusing bottles in the drug manufacturing (2)
------------------------------------------------------------

Dear E drugger,

The article stated that reused bottle are not properly washed
because manufacturer's do not have the facility to wash them.
Perhaps that's the next step forward then.

When I read the article, the first though that came to me (before
completing the whole article) was that reusing bottles is a fantastic
idea. Must admit that I wasn't thinking from the pharmaceutical
point of view, but from the environmental / green point of view. In a
global environment of depleting natural resources, "re-using" or "re-
cycling" used bottles should be encouraged, albeit I agree from a
pharmacuetical point that there must be regulations to ensure
quality.

In some of our pharmacy, amber glass oral liquid medication bottles
Are re-used and re-cycled after cleaning appropriately. We also
encourage patients to bring back their amber bottles so that we can
wash them and re-use them.

Thanks

[I guess the next question must be how do you know the bottles are clean?
What QA do you do on the cleaning process? - TD]
