E-drug: HIV and drug interactions
------------------------------------------------------------
HIV/AIDS patients take many medicines (if they have access to or
can afford them) and it is important to assess the risk of adverse
effects as well as drug interactions. Scrip no 2693, 7 November has
a note about a special website for HIV drug interactions. It is
maintained by the Liverpool University's HIV pharmacology group
(LHPG) and can be found at www.hiv-druginteractions.org. It also
covers the latest advances in the use of therapeutic drug monitoring
to improve the clinical management of HIV-positive patients.
The following article can be of interest in assessing the risk of
adverse events of treatment:
Fellay J et al. Prevalence of adverse events associated with potent
antiretroviral treatment: Swiss HIV Cohort Study. Lancet 2001; 358:
1322-27 (20 October)
