E-drug: Open patent licensing of public funded research (2)
------------------------------------------------------------

Christian: It is sometimes difficult to obtain copies of licenses,
particularly if the license is more than just a 'mere' patent license but
includes drug development and marketing arrangements. I was IP
attorney for a biotechnology company and we were very reluctant to
even let our employees look at some of our key license agreements.
You might want to search through the Securities and Exchange
Commission database (EDGAR) for individual pharmaceutical
companies since they are required to place certain agreements
in the database. I actually have not had much luck in this regard.
You may imagine that most corporations would rather not have the
economic terms of such licenses made public. There are plenty of
examples of "templates" that can be found by searching the internet
(google.com is good) under the term "license". The University of
Texas technology transfer office has examples of licenses- but
these are not the actual agreements. Actually, I would be interested
as well if you find something!
