Here's a query for the microbiologically informed.

It has to do with relative infectivity of antibiotic-resistant vs
antibiotic-sensitive bacteria.

The reason I ask is that human immunodeficiency virus that has
developed resistance to one or more protease inhibitors is said to be
a somewhat defective virus, presumably less infective, and less
robust in replication than the 'wild' type. Is there a bacterial
counterpart to these differences in HIV?
