E-drug: Spamming and viruses
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear E-druggers,

Since unwanted messages and viruses are proliferating at an
alarming rate, we have felt obliged to put in place active measures
to protect the servers and sanity of Healthnet, and the moderators
of its discussion groups. Healthnet installed:

1. Filters that block spam messages from being forwarded to
moderators. E-druggers have noticed little of this annoyance, as the
moderators performed this role until now, but spammers never give
up and receiving 5-10 spam messages per day does get tiring at
some point.

2. Software to scan incoming messages and attachments for
viruses and worms. Senders of poisoned messages will be informed
and their attached virus/worm be destroyed. Unfortunately, these
measures also include the decision not to accept attachments
anymore, or forwarding them to the moderators. Moderators have
often been willing to convert texts of attachments into E-drug texts,
but this practice has become too dangerous because of the viruses
that may be included in such attachments. In short, E-drug
contributions can only be submitted as plain e-mail messages from
now on.
