E-drug: Experience on mobile clinics sought (cont'd)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Nepal, where about 35 hill districts do not have facilities of
modern transportation, people have to walk about 1 to 3 days to
reach the district hospital, and the local PHC outlets run by the
public system are poorly organised, the following types of services
are provided through the mobile clinics.
a. Mobile voluntary surgical contraception (VSC) camps: The
service includes vasectomy, minilap and laparoscopy. The doctor
from the district hospital is responsible to organise the mobile
camps.
b. PHC outreach clinics: In this system the health posts/sub-health
posts send their maternal and child health workers to a
pre-arranged place (three to five villages) at a predetermined time
once per month to provide PHC services.
c. Mobile teams for controlling outbreaks of communicable
diseases: Every year outbreaks of diarrhoea, dysentery, typhoid,
ARI, influenza, fever, measles etc are common in different
districts. Medical teams, medicines and other supplies are sent to
the districts to help them to control the outbreaks.
d. Specific mobile teams: Medical teams for the treatment of
specific problems are sent by different NGOs to the prearranged
places at predetermined time.
Unfortunately, little information is available about the quality,
coverage and outcome of the services.
