E-drug: Experience on mobile clinics sought (cont'd)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a mobile clinic on water trial ongoing in the Dodecanesian
islands of Greece. I visited Karpathos in early June and in the
harbor there was this hospital ship which I was shown around. The
Greece government had supplied the ship, and also financed the
specialists (general practitioner, dentists, orthopedic, gynecologist,
surgeon, oto-laryngists etc). The communities paid for maintenance
and the patients were paying the doctors as private patients. There
was heavy demand and the ship was going to the small islands
where especially older people needed its service. For these older
people it was difficult to travel to the new hospital in Rhodes. The
captain of the ship told me that the need for this kind of service is
very big but that the funding for next year was not yet secured. I
have some pictures of this hospital boat.
