E-drug: Phenylbutazone availability
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear colleagues in DRA,
Phenylbutazone has been withdrawn from the market for its known side
effects since early 1980's.
I would like to know if any Drug Regulatory Authority, has retained it for
restricted use for a period of not more than seven days.
What is the WHO's updated comments? I have the comments of 1991.
Thank you
DR BIBIANA K. NJUE

[In Norway a patient would be able to get it if the doctor fills in the
special application form and sends it to the Medicines Control Agency,
justifying why the patient needs it - and the request is approved. Such an
application will be valid for one year. To get it reimbursed, you would
then have to apply to the national insurance authority. KM, co-moderator]
