E-drug: Re: Tiny Belize lags behind in AIDS care, attention
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear all,
I am very sorry about the ongoing health discussion for the developing
countries. For me it seems rather weird to discuss AIDS drugs for countries
where you cannot find basic drugs at all, so people die from diarrhoea or
pneumonia or other very simple conditions because they lack any drug.
Secondly, there is virtually no country which could supply the necessary
lab test required for the treatment of AIDS. Not to speak of the money. We,
the richest countries, cannot support the countries with the 3 Dollar per
capita per year for the basic health package and we discuss about 300
Dollars plus for AIDS drugs.
I am quite sure that now the pharmaceutical companies will enjoy the huge
test which will be going on in the developing countries. Now they can find
out easily about development of resistance, combinations of different drugs
etc.
This victory for me has a frightening unknown downside.
