E-drug: New edition of Therapeutic Guidelines: Respiratory

Therapeutic Guidelines consist of advice on treatment written principally
for prescribers.
The new edition of Respiratory was published in January 2000. Chapters
include:
- Asthma, both acute and chronic
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Rhinitis and sinusitis
- Cough
- Pleuritic and chest wall pain
- Patients with respiratory disease undergoing surgery
- Bronchitis and pneumonia
- Pulmonary tuberculosis
- Other respiratory tract infections
- Suppurative lung disease
- Cystic fibrosis
- Interstitial lung disease
- Respiratory fitness to scuba dive
- Obstructive sleep apnoea and disorders of respiratory control
- Oxygen therapy
- Assessment and treatment of smoking
- Inhalational drug delivery devices
- Respiratory drug use in pregnancy and breastfeeding
- A guide to pulmonary function testing
Also included is a list of the major studies or references on which the
recommendations are based.
The text is reconciled with Australian and overseas guidelines, and has been
endorsed by the Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand, as well as the
Commonwealth Department of Health & Aged Care, the Royal Australian College
of General Practitioners, the National Prescribing Service, and other
professional bodies.
