THE SECOND P-DRUG WORKSHOP ON RATIONAL PHARMACOTHERAPY IN JAPAN
Announcement

BACKGROUND
The P-NET-J will be holding the Second P-drug Workshop on Rational
Pharmacotherapy in Japan, Hieizan, Japan, 27-29 August 1999.
The P-NET-J is the Japanese network for promoting rational
pharmacotherapy on the idea/methods outlined in the WHO
Guide to Good Prescribing. It is along with the activities of the
International Network for the Development of Pharmacotherapy Teaching
(INDEPTH).
INDEPTH office is at the WHO Collaborating Centre for Pharmacotherapy
Teaching and Training, the University of Groningen (RuG) in the
Netherlands, which offers International Course on Teaching Rational
pharmacotherapy.

The P-NET-J held the first workshop at Hamamatsu, 6 December 1998,
with the lectureship of Dr. HV Hogerzeil, WHO/DAP. On the basis of
experiences of the workshop of last year, this year's workshop will be
for three days. The course will be given in English and the instructor will
be Prof. Kumud Kumar Kafle, Head, Dept of Clinical Pharmacology Institute
of Medicine, TU Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal

VENUE
Seminar House of Otsuka Hieizan-so, Hieizan, Otsu, Japan.
Hieizan is the religious mountain , 30 minutes drive from/to Kyoto
(beautiful ancient capital city of Japan)

Day 1
27 August, Friday

13:00 - 13:30 Introduction of participants and Course Objectives
13:30 - 14:30 Criteria for selection of Essential Drugs
14:30 - 15:30 Steps of Rational Prescribing
15:30 - 15:45 Break
15:45 - 16:45 Introduction to P-drug concept and selection of
effective group and a P-drug.
16:45 - 17:45 Demonstration tutorial on P-drug for simple,
uncomplicated problem (activity)

Day 2
28 August, Saturday

9:00 - 11:00 Three simultaneous group activity to develop
P-drugs for a common problem (activity)
11:00 - 11:15 Break
11:15 - 12:15 Presentation and Discussion
12:15 - 13:15 Demonstration tutorial on P-drug for a specific
condition meeting suitability to the patient (Activity).
13:15 - 14:15 Break
14:15 - 15:15 Role play on writing prescription, communicating information
and arrangement for follow-up (small group activity)
15:15 - 15:30 Break
15:30 - 17:00 Assessing/examining students after a problem - based
course: OSCE

Day 3
29 August, Sunday

9:00 - 10:30 Developing action plan for introduction of "GGP" at their
places.
10:30 - 10:45 Break
10:45 - 12:00 Open discussion
12:00 Closure

FEES
Japanese Yen 15,000 (US$ 130) including materials, accommodation and food.

APPLICATION
Application deadline is 20 August 1999
Maximum number of the participants is 30.

Therapeutics (JSCPT), The Japan Society of Pharmacoepidemiology (JSPE),
and the Japanese informal Network for the Cochrane Collaboration
(JANCOC).

for lodging, food, and others.
