E-DRUG: Curious abortion device from Norway???? Response

The laminaria stick has been used as a pretreatment before abortions.
It swells very slowly, and has been used for cervix dilatation, starting
14 -16 hours before the abortion.

These laminaria sticks were used till a couple years ago at the
gynecological ward of this hospital (Elverum, Norway, 240 bed general
hospital). I don't know the exact reason why they are not used here anymore,
and I don't know about use other places.
