E-drug: Codeine Linctus

Dear Friends,

Codeine Phosphate 30mg tablet is a controled drug for which import
authorization as well as special narcotic prescription peper is
required for its use in Eritrea. However, codeine linctus
containing codeine phosphate 15mg/5ml is not a controlled drug. In
this respect, I would like to know:-

1. The abuse potential of the linctus if taken in quantities greater
than the normal dose for longer period of time.

2. Its regulatory control in other countries

3. The relative advantages or disadvantages of categorizing it as
controled drug in countries like ours where the problem of drug abuse
is not a serious problem.
